It has been my great privilege and pleasure to represent the Weston Green Ward from 1999 to May 2016.   The Electoral Review for Elmbridge by the Boundary Commission saw changes to a number of Wards across the Borough and following the elections in May 2016, I was proud to be elected to the newly established Hinchley Wood and Weston Green Ward.

I have served on the following Committees:

Planning Committee; Environmental Affairs Overview and Scrutiny Committee; East Area Planning Sub-Committee; Licensing Committee; Community Affairs Overview and Scrutiny Committee; Elmbridge Age Concern Committee (now renamed - see below).

I have four main areas of interest: Planning; the environment; the provision of care for the retired; and the arts. To this end, I sit on the following Committees:

  • East Area Planning Sub-Committee
  • Elmbridge Older People's Advisory Body (Chairman)
  • C.H.E.E.R. (Concern and Help for East Elmbridge Retired)
  • Trustee: Elmbridge Trust for Older People's Services
  • Trustee: R.C. Sherriff Trust (Chairman)
  • Trustee of Walsingham Care

My husband and I have lived in Weston Green for over 20 years and have two grown-up daughters. I qualified as a teacher and for nine years was Head of House in a 2000+ pupil Comprehensive School in Wandsworth - the main responsibility being the pastoral care of some 300 pupils. The work was demanding, extremely rewarding and often exhausting! My interest in education led me to serve as a governor at Cranmere School for four years. Sadly, in 2003 I had to resign as my Council workload became so heavy that I felt that my contribution to the school was inadequate.

I set up the Lower Green Neighbourhood Watch some 20 years ago and continue to support 15 volunteer co-ordinators. I am pleased to note that Neighbourhood Watch is moving from strength to strength.

I spend many hours dealing with planning issues and it is often as a result of planning queries and applications that I meet so many Weston Green residents. This is the most enjoyable and rewarding part of being a Councillor - meeting your fellow residents! We are fortunate to be living in such a special place. The Parish Church of All Saints Weston sits picturesquely next to Marney's Pond on Ditton Common; the Weston Green Conservation Area with Milbourne Pond nestles to the north; we have some very valued and special common land; there are also several noteworthy houses (some listed) and a few really good public houses! It is vital that we strive to keep Weston Green special and 'green'. Unfortunately we are under constant pressure to provide more and more housing and flatted developments in this leafy part of Surrey and we seem to be constantly battling against inappropriate development and building in our open spaces and back gardens. Once these areas are concreted over they are lost forever. I shall continue to do my very best to preserve the character of the Weston Green Ward - and indeed the Borough, through my work on the Planning Committee.
