It had been a busy couple of months since the last meeting of the Council during which the Mayor had attended numerous engagements and she had also been pleased to hold her Civic Day. The Deputy Mayor had attended and it had been a very enjoyable day meeting the Mayors, Deputy Mayors and Chairmen from other Surrey Authorities. During a full day, various sites around the Borough were visited including Brooklands and the Chelsea Football Club Training Ground together with a National Trust house in Esher called ‘The Homewood’.
The Mayor had also been delighted to visit a local school in Stoke d’Abernon where the school had held a grandparent’s tea party. As the Mayor’s grandson attended the school, he had enjoyed seeing his grandmother in her red Mayoral robes.
Other engagements included being invited to a football match at the Sports Hub, courtesy of the Walton and Hersham Football Club, which was under new ownership. The team were progressing well in the Southern Counties League. The Mayor had also been to see the Walton Casuals at their Academy at the Sports Hub. The Academy trained young budding sports men and women from the ages of about 16 up to 19 years of age.
It had also been a pleasure to attend two centenarian’s birthday celebrations.
The Mayor advised that she had been pleased to visit the Elmbridge CAN Charity, which was helping to support seven Syrian refugee families who had relocated to the Borough. Elmbridge Borough Council was pleased to work in partnership with CAN to rehabilitate and work with refugees, helping them settle into the area. There were currently seven families within Elmbridge. The Mayor had been delighted to meet with some of the families during their attendance at a language course.
Thanks were extended to Councillor Roy Green, who had organised a successful quiz in Hersham, raising some £1,500 for her chosen charity, Elmbridge Mencap. Thanks were also extended to Councillor Mrs Lesley Yauner who had also organised a quiz in aid of her charity.
Finally, the Mayor outlined some forthcoming engagements including her Christmas Carol Concert on 15 December 2019 at St. Peter’s Church, Hersham; some bag packing at Waitrose on 17 December 2019 in support of her Charity; the Mayor’s Charity Ball, which would be held on 13 March 2020 at the Hilton Hotel, Cobham; and that Councillor Glenn Dearlove had kindly agreed to arrange a golf day on 30 March 2020.
